Auto Mechanic vs. Forklift Tech: Which One is Better For You
Automotive Mechanic vs. Forklift Technician
When people think of technician or mechanic jobs, the automotive industry often comes to mind first. However, few realize there’s an alternative career path that utilizes the same skill set — while offering greater flexibility and enhanced benefits: becoming a forklift technician.
With 12 locations across Michigan and northern Indiana, Morrison Industrial Equipment provides an excellent opportunity to start or transition into a forklift technician career.
Here's why making the shift from automotive mechanic to forklift technician could be the right move for you.
- Work-Life Balance
Our technicians generally only work Monday-Friday 7a-3:30pm.
- Company Vehicle
We provide our field techs with a company van that is home with you at night and we pay for fuel.
- Specialized Training
Once hired, technicians will automatically be enrolled into our training program. The program and trainings are completely paid for and offer classroom training, hands-on/job shadow training, e-learning, and mentoring.
- Hourly Pay
We pay our technicians at an hourly rate instead of flat rate, ensuring you earn more for the work you perform.
- Tools
We provide the specialty tools our material handling technicians need to do their work. Personal hand tools are required, but your tools are home with you when not on duty and are never locked up in someone's shop. Our technicians are also provided with uniforms, tool insurance, and a boot reimbursement up to $200.
Working for Us
Our technicians are a big reason why we have an outstanding reputation in the material handling industry. Along with expertly servicing fork trucks, technicians are often the main point of contact for our customers. That's why we put so much into the hiring, training, and continued development of our technician1s. Whether you're an experienced technician or interested in changing career paths, we can help you get to the next level.
